The Felipe Lopez Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in January 2000 by former prep-superstar at St. John's University and National Basketball Association (NBA) veteran, Felipe Lopez. The Felipe Lopez Foundation is recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is also recognized nationwide as a charitable organization (non-profit tax ID number is available upon request).

The Felipe Lopez Foundation actively seeks to augment youth and diverse communities via tailored programs enhancing educational resources while bettering their physical and social welfare. The foundation works with various agencies and organizations that support the positive development of young and diverse communities by providing enrichment in education and healthy lifestyle promotion. The Felipe Lopez Foundation is dedicated to employ athletics as a vehicle of global education to impede ignorance and build a healthy foundation for our youthful leaders.

Athletics is a unique form of education that creates social change and builds solidarity. Education is the means to societal progress and can be in both traditional (e.g., school) and non-traditional (e.g., sports) channels. Moreover, in today’s society, youth are receptive to these non-traditional lessons that will enable them to triumph the social inequity that is far too rampant and threatens the future of our society. Thereby, it is imperative for youth to have a strong sense of civic responsibility that only education can foster.

Thus, the Felipe Lopez Foundation objectives are multi-faceted and quite diverse. For example, past programs have included collecting food, water, building supplies and money for Hurricane George victims in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Haiti. Future initiatives include conducting various basketball clinics in economically and socially diverse communities to help youth develop and encourage positive self-character, life skills and teamwork. Ultimately, the Felipe Lopez Foundation intends to develop an environment for positive learning and healthy living that includes providing youth with scholarships to further educational opportunities as well as building a state-of-the-art educational institute in the Dominican Republic.
